Finishing up a portrait session with Nashville recording artist Camille Rae. We traveled to Tuscaloosa, AL for this shoot and met a lot of awesome people. There are a lot of big things coming up for Camille this fall, including a music video we shot that looks awesome! I can't wait to get it edited for everyone to see. Check out Camille on social media @camilleraemusic and see here website Here. Hair and MU for this session provided by Emily Summerville, see her work Here.
Sometimes the best planned ideas for a shoot end up on the floor the moment the model shows up. Do you pose them like this? Do you have them sit like that? A lot of times you spend the entire shoot trying to erase yourself from the process until you get the subject to give you something that is uniquely an expression of themselves that only they can reveal. In this case it was a group of ideas that became improvisations as Kelsey moved gracefully from one setup to the next telling me in a very convincing tone that she "was not a model." Kelsey's background as an athlete and bikini fitness competitor kicked in the moment it clicked between us that this was a competition, one that we were both in together. At that moment the photo shoot stopped and an artistic collaboration began as Kelsey engaged the camera with a fierceness that only a world-class competitor can deliver. Amazing hair and makeup provided by Krista Segars.
Working with fitness model Chase Ketron to create an image that was iconic and marketable presented a challenge. Chase has a great portfolio and has worked with a lot of amazing photographers, so I knew we had to create something different that he had not done before. We had a very creative shoot, I look forward to working with Chase again in the future. Make sure to follow him here on Instagram.
Finished working on a fashion inspired session with up-and-coming model Catherine Cornett. We made the most out of the blasting sunlight that showed up early in Knoxville, TN over the weekend. I shot a mix of digital and 6x7 film that made for a fun shoot in several unique locations. The digital images were lit with a large octodome, camera left.
When you are working with someone who trains other people to be their "best self" on a daily basis it can be a little bit intimidating. Julie is a personal trainer who is at the top of her game, she trains her clients with the same focused intensity that a sculptor would work with marble in a studio. Being around someone as determined and disciplined as Julie is extremely motivating. The shoot had a great pace and Julie moved naturally in front of the camera. Lighting was two large octodomes and reflectors from various angles.
I had a great time today working with UFC athlete Ovince Saint Preux at the National Fitness Center Signature Club. Ovince is a fierce competitor who is training for UFC 197 Vs. John Jones. I had about 60 seconds to shoot 2 poses with Ovince in the MMA room, lighting was one small grided octodome at eye level, camera left.
It's always great getting to work with country music recording artist Nick Hickman! Nick and his team had a great concept for this EP and I had fun editing, designing and putting it together for them. Check out Nick's new single "Tailgate Dance Floor" and click to find out where he is playing next on his website!

Always fun to shoot custom weapons! This is an AK47 M10 variation with Magpul furniture. Upgrades include Tapco drop in trigger, iron night sights, charging handle cover and quick-release strap system. Lighting was a large Octodome overhead, camera-left and a bare strobe camera-left, level with the objects in the frame.
